    Chex puppy chow

It's the holiday season, and this Christmas Reindeer Chex Mix Recipe is a huge hit this time of year! If you're headed to a holiday party and you want to bring a festive treat that's made with minimal ingredients, make this reindeer chow Chex mix!

Nothing says happy holidays like a fun treat at a Christmas party! And this Christmas puppy chow recipe is going to become one of your family and friends' favorite holiday treats. One of the great things about this recipe is how easy it is to make. It's a fun activity to get the kids involved in too! Your kids will love shaking the bag to coat the cereal mixture with powdered sugar and adding in their favorite candies to make a festive snack mix they can share!

Reindeer mix makes an excellent gift at Christmas time! Fill mason jars or cellophane bags with reindeer snack mix and tie a ribbon and gift tag around it! It is the perfect treat for the Christmas season.

I have been making this Santa's reindeer chow recipe for years and it's always a hit because it's the perfect sweet treat!

WHAT INGREDIENTS YOU NEED TO MAKE REINDEER FOOD:

    • 3 cups Rice Chex Mix Cereal
    • 3 cups Corn Chex Mix Cereal
    • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
    • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
    • 1 cup powdered sugar

If you can't have peanut butter or don't want to serve peanut butter to a crowd due to allergies, there are a variety of nut butters that work great in this recipe, including almond butter, vanilla almond butter, maple almond butter, cashew butter, sunflower butter. When giving this snack mix as a gift to teachers, it may be best to omit the peanut butter and use a more allergen friendly nut butter like sun butter. Tahini (sesame paste) will work in a pinch as well, but it isn't sweet so you'll want to add two tablespoons of maple syrup to the recipe. Once the mixture is coated in powdered sugar, it won't remain sticky. Adding a recipe card to the gift is a good way to let the person you're giving the snack mix as a gift to know what ingredients are in it so they know it's allergy friendly. Please also keep in mind that rice and corn Chex are gluten free, but wheat Chex is not gluten free.

Peanut butter Chex, cinnamon Chex, and chocolate Chex are great additions to the recipe to add more flavor. Using a mixture of Chex cereals rather than just one kind gives more dimension to the flavors of this sweet and salty Christmas Chex mix.

HOW TO MAKE REINDEER PUPPY CHOW

    1. Melt peanut butter in large mixing bowl (make sure to use a microwave-safe bowl) for about 30 seconds in microwave
    2. Add salt to peanut butter and stir to combine
    3. Add Rice and Corn Chex cereal to peanut butter mixture and stir until coated
    4. Add two cups powdered sugar, place lid on large bowl or transfer the cereal mixture to large gallon ziplock bag and shake until coated
    5. Storing in a mason jar, ziploc bags, or air-tight container will give these reindeer chow muddy buddies a longer shelf life. If you store them in the fridge they will last about 1-2 weeks

Favorite mix-ins for a little extra magic in this Christmas Reindeer Chex Mix Recipe:

    • peanut butter cups minis
    • holiday m&m candies (red and green m&m candies)

    • peanuts
    • chopped up butterfinger candies
