Carefully trim the fat off your pork shoulder and discard it
Mix together brown sugar, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder and rub on all sides of pork shoulder
Add 1 cup water to slow cooker
Place pork shoulder into slow cooker and set to LOW for 8-10 hours
After pork has cooked, remove the meat from the slow cooker and place it on a baking sheet or large cutting board (it will fall apart easily)
Using two forks, shred the pork and discard the bones
Discard the liquid in the crockpot and spray the inside with olive or avocado oil spray
Place the shredded meat back into the crockpot and cook on HIGH for 30 minutes to 1 hour
Serve with your favorite barbecue sauce!
