Y’all! This Easy Gluten Free White Country Gravy Recipe is everything you need it to be! With just a handful of basic ingredients, you will have a homemade white country gravy that tastes like it came out of a southern kitchen!

My mom always made this peppered sausage gravy with breakfast when I was growing up, and I used her original recipe (minus the sausage) to make this Easy Gluten Free White Country Gravy. The main difference is that we I use gluten-free flour instead of regular flour. So if you’re following a gluten-free diet and you’re looking for a traditional gravy that will quickly become a family favorite, this is it!

This delicious gravy tastes great on gluten-free chicken, gluten free country fried steak, mashed potatoes, and warm buttermilk biscuits! If you’re looking for an easy gluten-free sausage gravy recipe, just add some cooked crumbled breakfast sausage to this recipe, and tada!

I used to think gravy was a work of art, but the first time I made this simple country gravy recipe, I realized just how easy it is to make a delicious white gravy. The key to flavor in this recipe is the seasoned flour. You can use any seasoned flour you like, but Kentucky Kernel Gluten Free Seasoned Flour is by far my favorite! It tastes like the gluten version my momma uses, but it’s gluten free!

Since the flour is already seasoned, you don’t need much more seasoning. Just a little salt and black pepper and you’ll be on your way to a flavorful gravy that tastes good on anything!

What ingredients you need to make this Easy White Country Gravy:

If you are using a gluten free all purpose flour, add in a pinch of onion powder and garlic powder to the flour mixture.

When it comes to making this easy white gravy recipe, any milk will work, especially 2% and whole milk. For dairy-free gravy, use your favorite dairy free milk, such as coconut milk, or almond milk with vegan butter.

How to make this Easy White Country Gravy:

  1. Add butter to a deep skillet and turn heat to medium melt butter
  2. Once butter has melted, you’re going to make a simple roux by adding in the dry ingredients (flour, seasonings, salt, pepper), and whisking together. Let the flour cook with the melted butter, stirring often with a whisk or wooden spoon until it becomes clumpy.
  3. Add milk, salt, and pepper to skillet and continue whisking or stirring until the clumps of flour and butter become smooth and the gravy begins to thicken. Add the milk in a little bit at a time, stirring continuously.
  4. This process takes maybe 5-7 minutes on medium to medium-high heat. It will start to bubble up when it’s close to done
  5. Serve with fried chicken, country fried steak, mashed potatoes, flaky biscuits, or dip French fries in it! The possibilities are endless when you make this Easy Gluten Free White Country Gravy!

If you’re looking for a homemade white gravy recipe with a rich flavor that begins with melted butter rather than bacon grease or turkey drippings, you have to try this one. Your taste buds will thank you for making a gravy from scratch rather than from a gravy mix packet. If you do choose to use pan drippings, you may end up with a brown gravy rather than a white sauce. The best way to use meat drippings without the gravy turning brown is to use medium-low heat.

How to serve country gravy

My favorite way to serve this homemade gravy recipe is with Low Carb Gluten Free Biscuits, but if you’re looking for dinner recipes, try it with Gluten Free Fried Chicken and Mashed Potatoes to round out your comfort food meal.

Storing Leftovers

Store leftover gravy in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, add to a little milk or heavy cream to the gluten-free gravy and heat in a large skillet over medium heat, until you have a creamy gravy again. If you want to take your leftovers to the next level, use it to make this breakfast pizza recipe. (link)

Nutritional daily values are approximated using the simple ingredients listed. If you choose to use Bob’s Red Mill xanthan gum-free flour blend, potato starch, or a white rice flour, the nutritional values may change.
