How to Make Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs
There are several different ways to make hard boiled eggs, including using an egg cooker, air fryer, and instant pot. But for perfect hard boiled eggs every time, I do it the old-fashioned way, on the stove with boiling water.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- Water
- Ice
Place your eggs into the bottom of your pan. The size of the pan depends on how many eggs you’re making. Once you have the eggs in place, add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the bottom of the pan and then fill the pan with cold tap water. You’ll want to fill the water to one inch above the eggs. Place the pan on the stove and turn the heat to medium high.

Once the water comes to a rolling boil, turn off the heat, cover the pan with a lid, and set a timer for 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes, drain the water from the pan, and transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water, and set a timer for 5 minutes.

After the 5 minute ice bath, you can peel your eggs and slice them. The baking soda in the water helps the shells come off smoothly.
Storage Suggestions:
Hard boiled eggs will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can peel them ahead of time or leave them in their shells until you’re ready to eat them, although peeling them right away tends to help the shells come off more easily. Just put them in an airtight container in the fridge and you’ll have an easy low carb breakfast or snack all week long.
Serving Suggestions:
