Who doesn’t love a good green beans recipe?! This is the easiest and most tasty canned French style green beans recipe you’ll ever find! With just 4 simple ingredients, this is sure to become your favorite green bean recipe!

The first time I served this canned beans recipe at a dinner party it became an instant classic. Everyone at the dinner table raved about this tasty side dish and all were amazed when they found out how simple it is to make. They couldn’t believe these tender green beans cooked in less than 10 minutes!

This recipe can be made with other cuts of canned beans as well, so if your grocery store is out of French style cut green beans, don’t stress! Grab a can of fresh cut green beans, Italian green beans, or pick up some fresh green beans if you prefer to use fresh vegetables instead of canned. Canned green beans cook quickly, but if you opt for fresh green beans, using an instant pot or pressure cooker can speed up the process since fresh beans take a long time to cook on the stove top.

Full ingredient list you need to make easy green beans:

  • 1 can of green beans
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon Tastefully Simple Seasoned Salt or any seasoned salt you have on hand
  • 1/8 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

If you aren’t using Tastefully Simple seasoned salt, you may want to add in a pinch of onion powder and a pinch of garlic powder for more flavor. Keep in mind that when using seasoned salt, there’s no need to add additional salt.

How to make this easy canned green bean recipe:

  • Drain and rinse French cut beans and set aside
  • Add butter to large skillet and melt over medium heat or medium-high heat
  • Add green beans, fresh ground pepper, seasoned salt, and stir to combine
  • Let green beans cook about 4-6 minutes until heated through, stirring often

Dairy Free

If you are leading a dairy free or vegan lifestyle, olive oil is a good choice to use in place of the butter. Another dairy free option, especially if you’re craving southern green beans is to add a little bacon grease in place of the butter. It’s all a matter of personal preference!

To make this recipe for a potluck or holiday dinner:

Add 4 cans of green beans, drained, or 6 cups of green beans if using fresh beans, to the bottom of a slow cooker. Add in one stick of butter, 2 teaspoons seasoned salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Set to low heat with a cooking time of 4 hours. After the 4 hours, your crock pot will switch to warm and continue to keep the beans warm until you’re ready to serve them.

The best green bean casserole:

A delicious way to add something extra to your green bean casserole recipe is to make these green beans and then stir in a can of cream of mushroom soup and a splash of soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce. Pour green beans with creamy mushroom sauce into a greased baking dish, top with crispy onion straws (see below for gluten free version in the air fryer), and bake in the oven for about 25 minutes at 350°F. This will elevate your holiday casserole and even please the green bean haters!

Gluten Free Onion Straws in the Air Fryer:

Cut 1 onion (yellow, white, or sweet), into thin rings. Toss with a pinch of salt and 2 tablespoons avocado oil or olive oil. Place in air fryer for 10 minutes at 300°F. Lower the temp to 250°·F and cook another 15-20 minutes until crispy. Be patient during this process as it does take some time, but the payoff is worth it, especially since gluten free crispy fried onions are so difficult to find!
