Healthy Fruit and Yogurt Popsicles
These healthy fruit and yogurt popsicles are easy to make and taste delicious! They are kid approved and you can easily sneak in some veggies, like spinach and kale.
Healthy Fruit and Yogurt Popsicles
My toddler requests these popsicles often because they taste so good. And theyโre a breeze to make. All you need is a few ingredients, a blender, and some popsicle molds, and youโll be on your way to creating a healthy sweet treat for your family to enjoy.
Flavor combinations and healthy add-ins:
My toddler and bonus kid love these Healthy Fruit and Yogurt Popsicles because they taste delicious. What they donโt know is that I sneak in veggies to boost the nutrition content. A handful of spinach or kale is completely masked by the fruit and goes undetected by their little tastebuds. They get to enjoy a special treat, and I get to sit back and enjoy them eating veggies.
I always keep my freezer stocked with frozen fruits and veggies. If I have fresh fruits and veggies that are about to go bad, I put them in freezer safe storage bags and store them in the freezer for up to 3 months for smoothies and these healthy fruit and yogurt popsicles. To save money, I buy discounted ripe avocados and other fruits and veggies that are about to go bad at the grocery store (sometimes they mark them down to just cents) and prep them for freezing as soon as I get home. This tip will help you save a ton of money on healthy ingredients.
You can really get creative with these fruit and yogurt pops and come up with some delicious flavor combinations. You can even use dairy free and vegan yogurts to suit your dietary needs. They are naturally gluten free.
Here are some of my favorite flavor combinations that even the kids approve of! Donโt forget to add yogurt and maple or honey. You could even sweeten with stevia:
- Strawberries and banana: one of my kidsโ favorite combos! Add 1 banana and 1/4 cup fresh strawberries
- Avocado and lime: this one tastes like key lime pie! Add the juice of 1 lime and a small avocado or half cup frozen avocado
- Coconut and pineapple (think of a Pina Colada popsicle!): use unsweetened coconut milk yogurt as the base (instead of plain yogurt) and blend with 1/2 cup fresh or frozen pineapple chunks
- Blueberries and spinach: it tastes just like blueberries but with the nutritional benefits of spinach. Use 1/2 cup blueberries and a handful of baby spinach for this one
- Raspberries and kale: 1/2 cup raspberries and a handful of kale is a great flavor combination
- Banana and chocolate: add 1 to 2 bananas (depending on size) and 1 tablespoon cacao powder
- Peanut butter and chocolate: it just takes 1 tablespoon peanut butter powder (like PB2) and 1 tablespoon cacao powder to make this delicious combo. But feel free to add a banana for some fiber
- Blueberries and chocolate: (you just have to try it to understand!) 1/2 cup blueberries, 1 tablespoon cacao powder, and sometimes I like to add 1 tablespoon PB2 for extra yumminess (this is also one of my favorite smoothie flavors)
- Strawberries and spinach: the speckles of green from the spinach are barely noticeable and the flavor is completely masked by the strawberries
- Coconut and lime: use unsweetened coconut milk yogurt (instead of plain yogurt) and the juice from 1 lime. Half an avocado adds an extra creaminess and some healthy fats and fiber without altering the flavor
- Sweet potato and banana: this one sounds weird, but I promise it tastes really good! 1/2 cup diced sweet potatoes and 1 banana are needed for this combo
- Avocado and chocolate: 1/2 an avocado and 1 tablespoon cacao powder makes for a popsicle that tastes similar to a fudgesicle
How to make healthy fruit and yogurt popsicles:
- Add yogurt, fruit/veggies, and maple syrup or honey to a blender and blend until smooth (see flavor combos above)
- Pour into popsicle molds and freeze for at least 4 hours
- Recipe makes about 6 popsicles
My favorite popsicle molds:
You can use any popsicle molds you like to make these healthy fruit and yogurt popsicles. I, personally, prefer these silicone popsicle molds because they are flexible, which makes it easier to remove the frozen popsicles when itโs time to eat them. They are also made of food grade silicone, which is safer and healthier than plastic. I have used metal molds in the past, but they began to rust so I swapped them for silicone molds.
