    Guacamole Recipe No Onion

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

If you're looking for an easy guacamole recipe no onion, you've come to the right place! While red onions are traditional to guacamole, they aren't necessary! This quick guacamole recipe is made with a handful of ingredients and tastes amazing!

    Guacamole Recipe (no onion)

Holy Guacamole!!! I LOVE guacamole! Whole Foods, Cheesecake Factory, QDoba, Chipotle…some of my favorites! But when I lived in southern Delaware, these places were hours away, so I had to take matters into my own hands and create a guacamole recipe that would satisfy my craving. AND I NAILED IT!!! Seriously, you HAVE to try this recipe! My 3 year old asked me to make more because it is so good that we ate the entire batch in 2 days!

When it comes to guacamole, I’m a NO tomatoes, no onion kinda girl. But I know a lot of people like them, so I’ve added an option for tomatoes and onions that includes increasing the amount of salt used. For me, guacamole should be creamy and green with just the right amount of acidity. This recipe isn’t spicy at all, so please feel free to increase the amount of jalapeño if you prefer a spicy guacamole recipe. I keep it mild because my son loves guacamole too.

What ingredients you need to make this simple guacamole recipe:

    • avocados
    • jalapeno
    • lime juice
    • minced garlic
    • fresh cilantro
    • salt

    More about the ingredients:

Avocados: you want to choose good ripe avocados or they won’t mash properly or have a creamy taste and texture. Some grocery stores have a discounted selection of ripe avocados that are the perfect avocados for this guacamole recipe. To remove the pit, just gently push on the back of that half of the avocado and it will pop right out. To quickly ripen hard avocados and unripe avocados, place them in a paper bag with a banana overnight to release ethylene gas, which ripens the avocados overnight.

Jalapeño: remove the seeds and give it a fine chop so the pieces are really small. Add more if you like it spicy

Lime: I highly recommend using a citrus squeezer so you can squeeze as much juice as possible out of your lime. If you are squeezing by hand, you may need a little extra. Lemon juice also works, but it alters the flavor a bit.

Garlic: 1 tablespoon of store-bought minced garlic works in a pinch, or use about 3 cloves for this recipe

Cilantro: be sure to wash the cilantro and pat it dry before giving it a fine chop. You can also buy pre-chopped cilantro at many grocery stores. If using dried cilantro, you'll only want to add about a teaspoon

Salt: adjust the salt according to your liking

    Optional add ins:

Some people like tomato guacamole. If that's you, add ⅓ cup diced grape tomatoes or pico to this authentic guacamole recipe. Adding tomatoes will likely mean you need to add more salt. Start slow and taste it as you season the guacamole to make sure you don't over-salt it.

Onions: yellow onions, white onions, red onions, or sweet onions...it's all about personal preference for this one.

How to make this homemade guacamole recipe:

    1. Slice avocados, remove the pits, and scoop the avocado flesh out into a mixing bowl
    2. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the avocados and mash avocado flesh with a fork or potato masher
    3. Add garlic, cilantro, jalapeño, and salt, and stir to combine
    4. Give it a taste test to see if it needs more salt and add a pinch at a time until it's to your liking
    5. See note for making guacamole in the food processor
    6. Serve immediately with crunchy tortilla chips or add to burrito bowls and fajitas

Making guacamole in the food processor:

If I'm being honest, a lot of times I'm lazy and just throw everything in the food processor and pulse until smooth with some large chunks of creamy avocados. It's a quick and easy way to make guacamole without having to dice the jalapeño or mince the garlic. Put a piece of jalapeño without the seeds, and 3 peeled cloves of garlic in with the avocado flesh, salt, cilantro, and lime juice, and pulse until everything is incorporated. It takes some of the prep work out and turns out extra creamy.

    How to Store Leftover Guacamole

No one likes brown guacamole, so to keep guacamole fresh, you'll want to store it in an airtight container or cover it tightly with a piece of plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. There are a lot of hacks out there showing how to preserve guacamole and keep it from getting brown spots. The best way is actually to add acidity, which we've done with the lime juice and that's why this recipe keeps so well in the fridge.

I love using leftover guacamole to make avocado toastthe next day!

How to serve this easy guacamole dip

The best way to serve guacamole is with your favorite tortilla chips, but if you want a healthier option, serve it with cut up veggies. Cucumbers, bell peppers, and carrots are great with this delicious dip for a healthy snack.

This creamy guac is great to add to tacos, burrito bowls, fajitas, avocado toast.

    • ½ jalapeno seeds removed, finely diced
    • 1 lime, juiced
    • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, finely chopped
    • ½ tablespoon minced garlic about 2 cloves
    • ¼ teaspoon sea salt

    Instructions

    • Slice avocados, remove the pits, and scoop the "meat" out into a mixing bowl
    • Squeeze lime juice over the avocados and mash with a fork

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. The lime juice will prevent the avocados from turning brown.
